When I do my holiday food shopping, I get in some weight-bearing exercise too! I put the turkey and bags of flour (for homemade cookies and cakes, of course) in the cart first – the weight of the turkey and the flour provides a little extra weight in the cart and I get a workout while I am shopping!
I love incorporating calcium- and vitamin D-rich foods into the meals (and treats) that I create around the holidays. Leafy greens are perfect for a salad, and when I want to indulge – a broccoli casserole – filled with cheese, butter and cream, packs a lot of calcium too! For dessert, a scoop of calcium-rich vanilla ice cream on a piece of warm apple pie is delicious.

The holidays also mean it’s colder outside. While it’s nice to curl up inside with a book, I still try to make sure I’m getting my daily dose of vitamin D. Try a 15-minute walk outside without sunscreen!
